Mark Cuban is upset with the NFL - and its television partners - for scheduling Saturday's Cowboys playoff game in direct competition with the Mavericks' home game against Utah. The Cowboys will play Philadelphia at 7 p.m. in Arlington. The Mavericks play the Jazz at 7:30 p.m. "I know we're [small potatoes] compared to the NFL, but seriously, the NFL is turning into the ugly American when it comes to sports leagues," Cuban said before Tuesday's game against Detroit. "They don't [care] about anybody but themselves. There's not much I can do, obviously, in terms of the schedule." (Dallas Morning News)Comment
The next time Magic Johnson asks the Knicks for a seat along celebrity row, he first may want to ask Isiah Thomas for his forgiveness. The Daily News has learned that Johnson's request for comp tickets to a Knicks game last month was rejected due in part to his criticism of Thomas, the team's former president and head coach, who remains close to Garden chairman James Dolan. Whenever the Cowboys' season ends - either Sunday or Feb. 8 after Super Bowl XLIV in Miami - owner and general manager Jerry Jones will sit down with coach Wade Phillips within a day or two to resolve Phillips' 2010 status. Jones holds the option on the fourth year of the deal Phillips signed in 2007 and has publicly supported the coach all season and especially down the stretch, adding that he does not want to make a coaching change.
