Rams to usher in Bradford era?
If A.J. Feeley is injured, Sam Bradford's life as starter may begin soon ... as in now. [Feeley] experienced swelling in his right thumb Sunday, casting doubt on his ability to play in Thursday's preseason game at New England. "If A.J. can't go, Sam will start," coach Steve Spagnuolo said after the Rams' 19-17 preseason victory in Cleveland. "That makes sense. He'll get plenty of work (in practice)." Spagnuolo said he wasn't sure whether Feeley would be able to practice this afternoon when the team returns to work after an off day Sunday. (St. Louis Post Dispatch)Comment
Tressel: Sweat too good to redshirt
While it had been speculated that linebacker Andrew Sweat would redshirt the 2010 season, Jim Tressel dismissed it quickly. "He's going to play," Tressel said. "There were some people prognosticating he might redshirt." As Tressel recalled, the rumor was based on speculation that the redshirt would put more time between Sweat and the knee injury that cost him the latter half of last season. With two years of eligibility remaining, he would be able to step into a linebacker field devoid of this year's senior starters, Brian Rolle and Ross Homan. "But he's too good for that," Tressel said. "The 2010 Buckeyes need him." (Columbus Dispatch)Comment
Will Yanks wear out MVP candidate?
While some concerns have been expressed about overworking Robinson Cano, the Yankees may not have much choice. Sure the second baseman is just 27, a baby by comparison to the team's elder statesmen. But being surrounded by age and plenty of bumps and bruises has meant no rest for Cano. He has started 121 of the Yankees' 124 games (a team high), and the decision makers had hoped to find him a respite here or there, even if it was just to be the designated hitter. Because even twentysomething middle infielders have an exhaustion point. It just appears Cano has not reached his yet. Which is good for the Yankees, because this is no time for the weary, not with Alex Rodriguez on the disabled list. Instead, this simply has become Cano's time. This is his audition reel for MVP consideration. (New York Post)Comment
