Jackie Stewart

ABC's Wide World of Sports celebrated its 50th anniversary last week. Here is a look at some of the memorable moments from the show's 13-year run. The Flying Scot wins the Monaco Grand Prix by recording an average speed of 83.49 miles per hour. Stewart won the Formula One world championship that season behind wins in Spain, France and Britain, among others.

Muhammad Ali and Howard Cosell

The heavyweight champion messes with the hair of the sports commentator before the start of the Olympic boxing trials. Cosell, known for his caustic style, was a celebrated and controversial figure. Ali, the trash-talking champion, was both beloved and vilified. It only makes sense that the pair had a good relationship.

George Foreman and Howard Cosell

Foreman is interviewed by ABC's Cosell as Don King looks on during an exhibition in Montreal.

Harlem Globetrotters

The Globetrotters do their famous Magic Circle warm-up routine to the song Sweet Georgia Brown at the Palais des Sports in Paris. The team made a world tour during 1978.
