Canadian Football League commissioner Mark Cohon took the high road when asked about Toronto as an NFL market. Doug Ford, a Toronto city councillor and the brother of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, was more than happy to speculate. The Fords, who are proponents of bringing U.S. football to Toronto, were at the news conference and reporters surrounded the mayor wondering whether he believed an NFL team would mean the death of the Argos. ... But Doug Ford believes the NFL would actually help the CFL by generating more economic activity. "What's the No. 1 issue with the CFL? Not fans, not loyalty ... it all comes down to the money. What better company to come along than the NFL to support the CFL." (National Post)Comment
Matheny: Cousins 'went hunting' on Posey
Former Giant Mike Matheny has a unique perspective on the events leading to Buster Posey's season-ending injury. [Matheny] was one tough hombre who left the game kicking and screaming after a series of concussions threatened his long-term health in 2006. The retired catcher also believes home-plate collisions are part of the game. That said, he criticized the Marlins' Scott Cousins for the hit that ended [Posey's] season and threatens his career. "He went hunting," Matheny said of Cousins. "Buster gave him an option and he didn't take it. The play wasn't illegal. He didn't come in high spikes or high elbows, but it wasn't necessary. I love the play at the plate, but when a guy goes out of his way to get you, I'm not a big fan of it." (San Francisco Chronicle)Comment
Krstic taking his talents to Moscow?
Red Square may have an edge over Celtics green for Nenad Krstic. CelticsLife.com points out that a Sports.ru report says that CSKA Moscow is interested in signing [Krstic] to a long-term deal. Krstic, 27, was acquired by Boston along with Jeff Green at the trade deadline for Kendrick Perkins and Nate Robinson. The 7-foot center played in 24 games (20 starts) for the Celtics, averaging 9.1 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. In the playoffs, he was benched in favor of Jermaine O???Neal, and averaged 1.7 points and 1.7 rebounds in limited playing time. Krstic had his most successful season with the New Jersey Nets in 2006-07, averaging 16.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Moscow has featured NBA players such as Andrei Kirilenko and Darius Songaila in the past. (NESN.com)Comment
