Television networks come up with every single lame gimmick they can think of (Hey, it's Faith Hill singing our intro song! Hey, here's a useless K-Zone graphic to show you if a pitch was a strike! Hey, here's a former referee to help us with instant replay even though he gets half the calls wrong!) to get more viewers to watch their games. But if they were smart, they'd forget all that nonsense, and do one very simple thing: Leave the mics on and the camera rolling during commercials. During last night's Heat-Hawks game, this happened during one of the breaks, and we were treated to Charles Barkley talking about what a scam it is that Weight Watchers is paying him (hear Barkley talk about Weight Watchers and more on the Hot Clicks Podcast), Kevin Harlan ripping the game he was calling, and Reggie Miller telling us Dwight Howard doesn't want to play for the Hawks.

Five-star safety Landon Collins from Geismar, La., had narrowed his college choices down to LSU and Alabama. He chose between the schools last night on live TV. The entire clip was filled with all kinds of uncomfortable and awkward moments, but the highlight comes when Collins' mother shows/voices her complete disgust with her son's decision and then starts rooting against her son's team. (Thanks to Bryan Hopping, of Las Vegas, for the tip.)

Awwwkward

Remember the ugly brawl that took place during a basketball game between Xavier and Cincinnati last month? Xavier is putting some of the blame on the student section at the arena for contributing to a hostile atmosphere. And the school has announced that those kids cannot attend another home game unless they take a "reflection session."

One of the best parts of my job is when I get to a write a ridiculous sentence that sums up a link. For example, here's the description for this link: "Dirk Nowitzki does a dramatic reading of Britney Spears' Oops I Did It Again. (If you need a Britney fix after watching that video, here you go.)

When a team wins a basketball game with six players on the court, as Louisiana-Lafayette did last night against Western Kentucky, we have no choice to call out the zebras for their ineptness. And to add more pain for Western Kentucky: Coach Ken McDonald was fired this morning after his team's 11th loss of the season.

New Clippers guard Chris Paul appeared on last night's Jimmy Kimmel Live. Paul couldn't come off as a more likeable guy, but it was Kimmel who stole the show with his constant Clippers bashing and shots at the NBA commissioner, including this take ("And then that bastard David Stern came in like the Wicked Witch of the East and he flew in on his broom stick") about Paul's nixed trade to the Lakers. You can view Part II of Paul's segment here.
