Adrian, Franklin strike gold at Austin Grand Prix

Nathan Adrian and Missy Franklin won gold in the 100-meter free at the Austin Grand Prix at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center on Friday.

Adrian set the pool record in the 100 free, finishing in 48.32 seconds.

Matt Biondi held the previous record with 48.42 set in 1988.

Adrian dominated the field as fellow Olympians Ricky Berens and Jimmy Feigen finished in second and third, respectively. Berens finished in 49.35 and Feigen in 50.01.

Franklin won the first event of the evening, the women's 100 free in a time of 54.68. Simone Manuel took second place in 55.52, with Nathalie Lindborg from rounding out the top three in 56.16.

In the 200-meter breaststroke, Southern Methodist took the top two spots as Rachel Nicol won in 2:28.79, followed by teammate Raminta Dvariskyte. Allie Szekely took third in 2:32.68.

On the men's side of the 200 breaststroke, B.J. Johnson beat Clark Burckle for the gold medal. Johnson went 2:13.02 and Burckle finished in 2:13.36. Mike Alexandrov took home the bronze medal in 2:13.97.

Chloe Sutton won the women's 400-meter free in 4:13.38. Barbara Jardin came in second in 4:10.27. Quinn Carrozza finished in third at 4:11.16.

Ryan Cochrane, a two-time Olympic swimmer from Canada, won the men's 400-meter free with a 3:52.07. Michael McBroom finished in second with a 3:52.41 and Michael Klueh was third in 3:54.82.

Noemie Thomas won the women's final event of the night, the 100 fly, in 58.88. Audrey Lacroix and Kathryn McLaughlin finished second and third, respectively. Lacroix finished in 1:00.14 and McLaughlin was at 1:00.82.

Eugene Godsoe and Bobby Bollier finished one-two in the men's 100 fly. Godsoe went 53.54 and Bollier finished in 53.57. Dan Madwed took home the bronze in 53.77.
