Randall, Northug secure fourth cross country wins of the season

KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia (AP) -- Kikkan Randall of the United States won the women's 1.4-kilometer cross-country World Cup race at the Sochi Olympic course to claim her fourth victory of the season on Friday.

Petter Northug of Norway also won his fourth race this winter, taking the men's 1.8-kilometer freestyle race in the mountains north of the Black sea coast.

Randall won in 2 minutes, 43.28 seconds. Aurore Jean of France was 0.52 seconds behind and Celine Brun-Lie of Norway was another 0.14 back in third.

Northug won in 3:54.18. Dario Cologna of Switzerland was 0.57 seconds behind and David Hoffer of Italy was third.

Overall World Cup leader Alexander Legkov of Russia skipped the event, while women's leader Justyna Kowalczyk of Poland failed to qualify.
