Porter wasn't able to match his 33-point outing from the last time the Hoyas played the Orange, but he helped Georgetown shut down Syracuse's offense for a 61-39 victory.
Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard Kobe Bryant goes to the hoop against the Oklahoma City Thunder in a March 5 game in Oklahoma City. The Lakers defense struggled mightily, giving up 71 points by halftime in a 122-105 loss.
Tiger Woods admires his shot off the 15th tee at the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral Golf Resort on March 9. Woods liked what he saw all weekend as he shot 19-under for the tournament to win by two strokes.
Shortstop Jimmy Rollins steps on the bag and fires to first to try to turn a double play in the third inning of the United States' game against Mexico in the World Baseball Classic on March 8. Ramiro Pena beat out the throw, and Mexico scored twice in the inning, doubling its lead to 4-0 in a 5-2 victory. The United States still won its pool, beating Italy and Canada to advance to the second round.
New York Knicks power forward Kenyon Martin commits a hard foul on Oklahoma City Thunder small forward Kevin Durant in a March 7 game. Durant scored a game-high 34 points as the Thunder pulled out a 95-94 win at Madison Square Garden.
Montreal Canadiens right winger Brendan Gallagher and goaltender Cedrick Desjardins and defenseman Brian Lee of the Tampa Bay Lightning collide as Gallagher scores in the third period of the March 9 contest. Gallagher's goal with just less than eight minutes remaining carried the Canadiens to a 4-3 victory.
New Orleans Hornets power forward Anthony Davis stretches to the rim while Memphis Grizzlies shooting guard Tony Allen tries to deny him in a March 9 game in Memphis. Allen, who scored 14 points, was one of seven players in double figures for the Grizzlies as they defeated the Hornets 96-85.
Jean-Frederic Chapuis leads Bastien Midol and John Teller in the snow cross competition at the FIS Freestyle Ski World Championships on the slopes of Myrkdalen in Voss, Norway. Jouni Pellinen took an early lead in the race but straddled a gate and was forced to move to the side of the course.
North Carolina forward James Micahel McAdoo throws down a dunk against Duke in the first half of the famous Tobacco Road rivalry game on March 9. McAdoo's dunk was a rare highlight for the Tar Heels as the Blue Devils built a 42-24 lead by halftime and cruised to a 69-53 win, sweeping their two-game series against North Carolina this season.
Patrick Deneen competes in the FIS Freestyle Ski World Championship moguls competition in Voss, Norway. The American scored a 25.9 on his run to take third place, while Mikael Kingsbury and Alex Bilodeau gave Canada a one-two finish.
Chicago Blackhawks center Jonathan Toews battles with Colorado Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov in a March 6 game at the United Center in Chicago. The Blackhawks won the game 3-2, extending their record for consecutive games with a point to start a season to 24 games. However, in a rematch in Denver, the Avalanche snapped the streak with a 6-2 victory.
Brooklyn Nets point guard Deron Williams gets off a tough fadeaway jumper over the outstretched arm of Atlanta Hawks point guard Jeff Teague on March 9. Williams contributed 17 points and six assists as the Nets picked up a road win over the Hawks 93-80, their third straight victory.
Rennes forward Julien Feret leaps for a header in front of Saint Etienne midfielder Fabien Lemoine in a French Ligue 1 match in Rennes. The game ended in a 2-2 draw after Pierre Emerick Aubameyang scored in the 65th minute to match Feret's goal in the 51st minute.
Milton's Ryan Soloman wrestles Chartiers-Houston's Garrett Vulacano in the 195-pound finals of the PIAA Class AA high school wrestling championships March 9. Soloman dominated Vulacano 7-0 on his birthday to repeat as state champion.
Thomas Krief soars above the half pipe at the Tryvann Winter Park in Oslo, Norway in the FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships. Krief scored a 94.2 on his run to earn third place in the half pipe competition.
