Three teams in the hunt for Flynn, Jags in the lead
Thanks to the Russell Wilson Show in Seattle, backup quarterback Matt Flynn may be on the move again. Several NFL sources have identified Jacksonville as the most likely destination for [Flynn], and the Jaguars are among the teams to talk to the Seahawks about a deal. Buffalo and Oakland are also in the mix, and though things have progressed slowly, sources said a trade could materialize before the draft. Flynn was signed to a lucrative free-agent deal in Seattle a year ago but barely played last season while Russell Wilson emerged as a rookie sensation. The Seahawks have not hidden their desire to find value for Flynn and give him the opportunity to play elsewhere. (CBS Sports)Comment
Apparently, the nickname "Johnny Twitter" won't be sticking any time soon. Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy, said Tuesday that he has self-imposed a Twitter ban in an attempt to keep his personal life more private. Manziel has been stung in recent weeks by negative publicity from both on- and off-the-field incidents. The latest controversy came Saturday, when media reports indicated Manziel shoved a Texas A&M graduate assistant after he threw one of his three interceptions during a spring scrimmage. ... Report: B's balk at Iginla's price, Kings moving up
Though Jarome Iginla is no longer in his prime, he remains a high-end talent. Calgary GM Jay Feaster is asking for goaltender Malcolm Subban to be part of any package from Boston. Boston GM Peter Chiarelli flatly refuses to include Subban in any package. Feaster, who is looking for two prospects and a draft pick for Iginla, has also approached Los Angeles about goalie Jonathan Bernier. It is believed that Bernier and a first-round pick would be enough to make Iginla a King. A Pittsburgh source suspects that GM Ray Shero may not be willing to part with the prospects required to land Iginla, but will stay in the auction to drive price up for Boston. - 1971 -- Bob Knight is hired by Indiana as its men's basketball head coach. Knight would coach Indiana until 2000, winning more than 600 games.
- 1994 -- Magic Johnson returns to the Los Angeles Lakers as head coach and leads them to a 110-101 victory over Milwaukee. Johnson would go on to coach the Lakers for the last 16 games of the 1993-94 season, posting a 5-11 record.
