Resentment returning to Jets locker room
These are strange days for Gang Green, who haven't been able to string wins together in 2013. The Jets locker room is at a delicate juncture in the season. The offense's struggles could easily lead to some resentment from the defense, something we've seen to differing degrees in each of the last two seasons. The new book "Collision Low Crossers" that documents the 2011 Jets season shows just how much tension there was between the two units with the defense feeling it was doing its job but getting no help from the other side of the ball. A similar feeling existed last year with the tension becoming evident after the team lost to the Titans in December when Antonio Cromartie shouted he wouldn't talk to reporters because he did not want to tell the truth. Stoops aside, everyone knows who will start at QB
Officially, Bob Stoops declined to name a starting quarterback for Oklahoma-Kansas State on Saturday. Which is silly and beside the point. Trevor Knight will start at quarterback. You know it, I know it, Stoops knows it. Heck, even Bill Snyder knows it. ... The question is really not about these last three games of a disappointing 2013 season (yes, disappointing; standing fourth place in a watered-down Big 12 is disappointing). The question is, who will quarterback the Sooners next season, when OU returns a bunch of players and conceivably could be the preseason Big 12 pick if it has any hope at quarterback? The most likely answer is Knight, and not just because of the way he played for three quarters against Iowa State. Knight has really QB'd 10 quarters this season. (The Oklahoman)Comment
Phillies' shopping spree is over
Shopping spree over -- almost as quickly as it began? The Phillies just committed $42 million to Carlos Ruiz and Marlon Byrd to help an offense that scored the fourth-fewest runs in baseball last season. Nobody is expecting Ruiz and Byrd to turn the lineup into an offensive juggernaut. They are considered complementary pieces. Philadelphia's front office still believes Ryan Howard, Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins can lead the way. Yes, general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. could make a big move before Opening Day on March 31 in Texas -- at this point, a trade is the only way to improve the offense -- but barring that, it looks like the heavy lifting for the 2014 offense is complete. ... Speculation remains that Amaro would trade [Domonic Brown] for the right price. (MLB.com)Comment
