The Eagles have made star wide receiver DeSean Jackson available, and at least one team has made its interest in acquiring him publicly known. At the NFL's annual owners meeting Sunday, New York Jets owner Woody Johnson said that his team wants Jackson, either by trade or if he's waived. "We're looking at a number of players, including DeSean," Johnson told reporters. Whether Johnson's comments constitute tampering—since Jackson is still under contract with another team—remains to be seen. But after adding Eric Decker and Michael Vick in free agency and releasing Mark Sanchez, it's clear that the Jets aren't done yet with their offseason shopping. (New York Post)Comment
Sandoval says no to Giants' offer
Pablo Sandoval looks set to test the waters of free agency in the coming offseason. On Sunday, reports leaked out of the Giants' spring training camp that Sandoval had rejected a three-year, $40 million offer from the team. Instead, Sandoval's agent, Gustavo Vasquez, apparently wanted a deal closer to the five-year, $90 million contract that Hunter Pence signed in the offseason. With the Giants unlikely to agree to those demands before Opening Day—"I don't think in 24 hours they'll jump from three years to five or six," Vasquez said—it's likely that Sandoval, the 2012 World Series MVP, will be headed for free agency after the upcoming 2014 season. Cuban: NFL will implode in 10 years
To Mark Cuban, the NFL is headed for cataclysm soon. That was the outspoken billionaire's prediction on Sunday night before Dallas' game against Brooklyn. Addressing reporters, the Mavericks' owner said that the NFL is "10 years away from an implosion" due to the greed of its owners. "I'm just telling you, pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered," Cuban said. "When you try to take it too far, people turn the other way. I'm just telling you, when you've got a good thing and you get greedy, it always, always, always, always, always turns on you. That's rule number one of business." Cuban, who has owned the Mavericks since 2000, tried to purchase the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins in 2006 and made unsuccessful bids for MLB's Chicago Cubs, Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Dodgers.
