Bucks' Caron Butler fined for 'obscene gesture'

The NBA announced Wednesday that Bucks guard Caron Butler has been fined $15,000 for making an obscene gesture during Milwaukee's 105-98 road win over Boston on Nov. 1.

With a little less than four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Butler received a pass from John Henson, worked his way around a screen and buried a three-pointer to tie the game at 93. Butler celebrated the shot by positioning both of his hands below his waistline, as if to demonstrate the large size of his genitalia. The celebration — which generally accompanies clutch plays — was popularized by Wizards assistant coach and former NBA player Sam Cassell and is generally referred to as the “Big Balls Dance.”

Butler finished with eight points (on 2-of-8 shooting) and six assists in 27 minutes. Zaza Pachulia led the Bucks with 20 points (on 5-of-10 shooting) and nine rebounds. Milwaukee's win over Boston improved them to 1-1 on the season and dropped the Celtics to 0-2. The Bucks are now 1-2; the Celtics are 0-4.

Nets center Andray Blatche was fined $15,000 earlier this month for performing the "Big Balls Dance" in a game against the Heat. Marco Belinelli was fined $15,000 in May for performing the same celebration during Game 7 of a 2013 first-round Eastern Conference playoffs series between the Bulls and Nets.
