Pelicans sign guard Gal Mekel

The New Orleans Pelicans have signed point guard Gal Mekel, the team announced on Friday. Mekel averaged 2.4 points and 2.0 assists over 31 games with the Mavericks last season. Dallas waived him prior to the start of this season. The 26-year-old has also played professionally in Israel.

The New Orleans Pelicans have signed point guard Gal Mekel, the team announced on Friday.

Mekel averaged 2.4 points and 2.0 assists over 31 games with the Mavericks last season. Dallas waived him prior to the start of this season. The 26-year-old has also played professionally in Israel.

Terms of the contract were not disclosed, but Marc Stein of ESPN reported that Mekel's deal with the Pelicans is non-guaranteed with a team option in the second year.

The Pelicans (8-9) play at the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday.
