Bulls point guard Derrick Rose will likely miss the rest of the preseason and is in doubt for Chicago’s regular-season opener against Cleveland as he recovers from an orbital fracture.

Rose originally intended to resume full activity on Wednesday, two weeks after surgery repaired his fractured left orbital bone after he was injured in the team’s first practice. But the Bulls said Tuesday that Rose “most likely” will miss the team’s remaining exhibition games, and that his status for opening night Oct. 27 is still up in the air.

“They still want him to be a little bit careful just with the swelling, make sure that his vision is back to where it’s supposed to be, to where it was before he got hit, before they want him to get anything going on with his blood pressure spiking is how I understand it,” Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg told reporters.

Hoiberg said Rose was probably “at least a week” away from being able to work up a sweat and exert himself.

After Chicago’s opener against the Cavaliers, the team will face Brooklyn and Detroit on the road on Oct. 28 and Oct. 30, respectively.
