Watch: Stephen Curry scores 28 in third quarter, Warriors now 20–0
The Hornets, like so many Warriors opponents before them, saw a game of hard-fought basketball turn hopeless in a matter of minutes. Stephen Curry was the predictable author of a decisive third-quarter run that all but sealed the game. In a stretch of less than two minutes, Curry dropped 14 points on five straight shots—four of them three-pointers—to push the Warriors lead to 21. He wouldn’t return for the rest of the game, bringing “Dell Curry Night” in Charlotte to a quiet, understated conclusion as Golden State improved to 20–0 in a 116–99 win on Wednesday.
Curry did his dad proud, though, piling up 40 points in the game and 28 (to the Hornets’ 21) in the third quarter alone. Only five times this season has a player dropped 40 prior to the fourth quarter, per SportsCenter. Four of those performances belong to Curry. Fittingly, he also made more three-pointers on Wednesday night (eight) than Dell did in any game of his 16-year career. The family legacy hasn’t just lived on through the MVP, but taken to new, transformational highs in ways players of Dell’s era could never have dreamed.
To be fair: Stephen, in hijacking a pregame interview with his dad, made “no promises” when it came to spoiling Dell Curry Night.
