Two men charged in the shooting of Dwyane Wade’s cousin
Two men have been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Nykea Aldridge, the cousin of Chicago Bulls star Dwyane Wade.
According to police, Aldridge was not the target of the shooters, brothers Darwin Sorrells Jr. and Derren Sorrells, 22, who were shooting at a third man.
The brothers have also been charged with attempted murder. Police are currently investigating if the incident was an attempted robbery.
Aldridge was shot as she was pushing her baby in a stroller near a school. The child was not harmed in the incident.
The city of Chicago is currently in the midst of a gun violence epidemic that is the worst in a decade. 441 people had been killed between the start of the year and Aug. 21, more than a 50 percent increase over the same period in 2015.
