Nick Nurse Praises Kyle Lowry's Leadership on 76ers

The 76ers' head coach took note of Kyle Lowry's leadership against the Nets.

It's been a little under a month since Kyle Lowry came home to the Philadelphia 76ers, following a contract buy out with the Charlotte Hornets.

Despite it being a relatively short time spent with the team given All-Star weekend being stuck in the middle of it, Lowry has made himself right at home with the Sixers, managing to grab himself a spot in the starting lineup as of late.

While Nurse is currently implementing Lowry into the starting five as an experiment, a role in which the 37-year-old has averaged 11 points and eight assists, it's given the veteran an even better opportunity to show off his leadership skills.

This skill was on full display during the Sixers' loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday night, where Lowry could be seen directing his teammates on the court as well as from the bench.

It's something that caught the eye of Nick Nurse, who commented on the Veteran's leadership role on the team following Tuesday night's loss.

"He certainly does a lot of directing and gets us some key buckets, you know," Nurse told reporters. "He sees a matchup or a play that he thinks is going to work, and it's big for us, yeah."

Against the Nets, Lowry would go on to score 14 points while showing off his eye for playmaking by dishing out a team-high five assists.

Lowry's Leadership should be nothing new for Nurse, who coached the Philadelphia native for several seasons during his time with the Toronto Raptors, which included an NBA championship in 2019.

It's safe to say that Lowry's voice and guidance are a welcome addition to the Sixers' roster following the departure of Patrick Beverley at the trade deadline, who had been a veteran figure on the court since the beginning of the season.

The former NBA champion has the most time spent in the league at 17 years, which surpassed the previous longest-serving player on the team, Nicolas Batum, who has been in the league for 15 years.

Given his tenure in the NBA, mixed with his experiences, it would be safe to guess that Lowry will continue to make his voice heard, especially as the playoffs get closer and closer, potentially mirroring the role P.J. Tucker had on the Sixers' last season.

For now, Lowry may have to guide his teammates from the bench, as the 37-year-old has been downgraded for Wednesday night's game against the Memphis Grizzlies for resting purposes.
