76ers Fans React to Addition of Kelly Oubre

In this story:
On Monday night, word got out the Philadelphia 76ers are expected to bring in Kelly Oubre.
The former Charlotte Hornets veteran is on pace to join the Sixers on a one-year deal, following his two-year run with the team’s Eastern Conference opponent.
With the eventual Oubre acquisition, the Sixers will reach their roster limit ahead of training camp, which is set to take place in early October.
During an offseason full of swapping players via free agency, Oubre joins a 76ers team that certainly has a need for athletic wings. Although the Sixers swapped out Matisse Thybulle for Jalen McDaniels at the trade deadline last year, they couldn’t hold on to McDaniels as he collected a short-term deal with the Toronto Raptors via free agency.
The 76ers hope to fill the void of Thybulle and McDaniels with Oubre next season. And with the 27-year-old headed to the City of Brotherly Love for next year’s run, let’s take a look at the fan base’s reactions after hearing the news.

Thoughts on Kelly Oubre with the Sixers

🏀Big time fit
🏀Wing that can run and jump (what's that?)
🏀Not a lockdown defender by any means, but creates deflections
🏀Low bball IQ, 🤞 the positives outweigh the negatives#Sixers #HereTheyCome #KellyOubre @Sean_Barnard1 pic.twitter.com/QxPgZVWea8
We have a wing. Welcome to the squad Kelly Oubre! pic.twitter.com/Qvfzm0rsUc

Should Kelly Oubre Jr. start over P.J. Tucker🤔
— Jacob Moreno (@jmoreno76ers) September 19, 2023
Imo: no, Sixers have enough offense in their starting lineup and PJ's defense is more important pic.twitter.com/xYVuRqFjd4
There are going to be games we love Kelly Oubre Jr and games we absolutely hate him but I like this move

At least Oubre Jr is a legitimate wing and getting a 20 point per game scorer on a minimum deal is phenomenal value
Who knows what’s up with James Harden let’s get weird https://t.co/m44QuxC9cy
Bro we really got Kelly Oubre pic.twitter.com/IhEqSXvExh

Kelly Oubre is not really a huge “move the meter” guy but he fits one huge requirement that Sixers roster doesn’t feature right now:

1) He is a wing who has shot a basketball before in his life https://t.co/zB1fRapo5a
I believe in Nick Nurse. So if he wants Kelly Oubre in Philly then so do I

Kelly Oubre Jr. is a solid signing by the #Sixers. He is coming off scoring a career-high 20.3 points per game for the Hornets last season. There are some major flaws in his game, but he should still be a useful player for the Sixers. https://t.co/yEcheZ9vuD

Kelly Oubre is a nice pickup, Sixers were desperate for some wing depth and definitely a guy who can get you some buckets every once in a while
— Prez💊 ‘ (@PresidentEmbiid) September 18, 2023
Kelly Oubre is one of my favorite Sixers bargain free agent signings in awhile, a lengthy wing who can get buckets off the bench is something I swear this team has never had
— ry (@NinjaBands) September 18, 2023
If Kelly Oubre can still be extremely motivated and play at his peak this is a huge signing by Morey and exactly what Philly needs. https://t.co/5q5NcbiLjw

How’s the City Feeling?
Many seem to be on the same page.
The Sixers didn’t make a huge splash in the NBA with the Oubre signing, but there is some added excitement with the addition ahead of training camp.
During an offseason that left many Philly fans feeling insecure about the direction of their team following the loss of some key reserves, Oubre can help fill in some of the gaps.
However, nobody is screaming championship contenders. At the end of the day, the Sixers still carry a big question mark with the James Harden trade drama continuing to play out.
Training camp is in two weeks. Only time will tell whether Harden will show up or not. With the ten-time All-Star’s playing status for next season in question, the Sixers’ fan base remains unsure about the direction of the team for next year.
