The 2023 NBA Playoffs are underway, and the Eastern Conference’s second matchup is set to tip off with the Atlanta Hawks and the Boston Celtics scheduled to battle it out following the Philadelphia 76ers and Brooklyn Nets’ postseason opener.

As the second seed in the Eastern Conference, the Celtics will look to defend their Eastern Conference Finals Champions status beginning with a series against the Hawks.

Going into the NBA Play-In Tournament, the Hawks ranked eighth in the East. They battled it out on the road against the Miami Heat. Despite being underdogs in the matchup, the Hawks upset the Heat and acquired the seventh seed.

With that victory, the Hawks earned themselves a seven-game series against the Celtics in the first round. While Atlanta’s status as playoff contenders remains intact, they face a tough first-round competitior that they’ve struggled against in the past.

This season, the Hawks and the Celtics met three times. Each outing resulted in a Boston victory. Following the early April finale between the Celtics and the Hawks, Boston picked up its fifth-straight win over the Hawks before heading into the playoffs.
