76ers: Tyrese Maxey’s Veteran Teammate Makes Bold Claim About Him

In this story:
Will Tyrese Maxey take another step forward during the 2023-2024 NBA season? Philadelphia 76ers sharpshooter Tobias Harris believes another big season is in store for the young guard.
During a recent discussion with HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, Harris predicted the fourth-year guard could add his first major NBA accolade to his resume this year.
“I think he’s an All-Star,” Harris claimed.
“I think he’s going to show people his playmaking ability as well. I think he’s such a great shot-maker and somebody who makes tough shots. It’s impressive, especially with the threes he makes off the bounce, and to be able to shoot it at a high clip. I think we’re going to see a big leap for him this year.”
Maxey’s progress at the NBA level is not something anyone has overlooked. While he struggled to carve out a consistent role during his rookie effort, patience went a long way for the former Kentucky guard.
In year one, Maxey averaged eight points and two assists. From beyond the arc, Maxey offered his doubters a year’s worth of proof that his shot is still a work in progress, as he knocked down just 30 percent of his threes in 2020-2021.
However, with an expanded role in year two, Maxey thrived. In 75 games, he averaged 18 points and four assists while silencing his critics by making a substantial jump in the three-point department, drilling 43 percent of his shots from deep.
Heading into the 2022-2023 season, Maxey was a popular candidate for first-time All-Star predictions. Unfortunately, his campaign was derailed quite early on in the process. During a late November matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks, Maxey suffered a foot injury. While he avoided surgery, the former first-rounder was headed for a recovery process that he hadn’t experienced as a pro.
Spending the next 18 games on the bench, Maxey’s string of absences would undoubtedly take a monster hit to his chances of becoming an All-Star. While individual accolades don’t motivate Maxey, it was an unfortunate situation nonetheless.
Maxey Predicted to Receive Major Honor in 2024
All-Star hype is building around Maxey going into the new basketball year once again, and it’s not just Harris who fired up the discussion. As publications understand the Sixers’ current circumstances with James Harden and the team’s new system, it’s widely believed Maxey will see another expansion regarding his role.
Considering he’s improved every season in the scoring department, leaving last season averaging 20 points per game while averaging 43 percent from three, one can be confident in Maxey’s ability to boost those numbers once again.
