This past offseason, Patrick Beverley was among the players the Philadelphia 76ers brought in to upgrade the roster. One player who has a long history with him recently opened up on what the veteran point guard brings to the team.

Over the past decade, Beverley has built a reputation for being a hard-nosed defender and being one of the biggest pests in the league. Aside from that, he is also a vocal lead on and off the floor.

Following the Sixers' blowout win over the Washington Wizards Wednesday, Robert Covington touched on the kind of mentality Beverley brings to the group.

"A grit. A grind. That underdog mentality. That get it out the mud. Like I said, I’ve known Pat [Beverly] since we were teenagers and I've seen his journey. You know being kids from Chicago like I've been a part of like a lot of things and he's gone through his transition of things. Everybody's journey is different. But the fact that he’s been consistent with staying persistent throughout his journey, you know putting the time in, putting the work in," Covington said. "Pat has just evolved throughout that time. So, he's just as crazy as he was back then, but he brings that mentality, that leadership, that this team needs."

Covington got his first taste of Beverley before his first run with the Sixers. Prior to signing in Philly, the defensive wing was a prospect within the Houston Rockets organization.

Along with what he brings with his voice, Beverley is also starting to find a groove offensively with the Sixers. Over his last six games, he has broken double digits on four occasions. Beverley's biggest performance of the year came against the Boston Celtics two weeks ago. On a night where Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey were out of the lineup, he erupted for a career-high 26 points on 66% shooting from the field.

Beverley kept his positive momentum rolling on Wednesday against the Wizards. He logged 11 minutes and finished with 12 points on 4-for-6 shooting.
