Sunday marks the seventh and final matchup between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Boston Celtics during the 2023 NBA Playoffs. 

The last time the Sixers paid a visit to the Celtics, they picked up their most comfortable win of the series. At the time, the score was knotted 2-2. When the Sixers found an edge in Game 5, they set themselves up to potentially eliminate the Celtics in Game 6.

The Sixers couldn’t finish the job. As they hosted Boston on Thursday, the Sixers’ slow start and cold finish led them to collect a 95-86 loss. 

By coming up short, the Celtics tied the series 3-3 and forced a Game 7. Over the last four playoff runs, the Sixers have participated in two Game 7 scenarios. During the 2019 playoffs, the Sixers lost to the Raptors on the road. In 2021, the Sixers came up short against the Atlanta Hawks at home. 

On Sunday, the Sixers will search for their first Game 7 win since 2001. If they are able to overcome Boston on the road once and for all, the Sixers will advance to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since the team’s 2001 run to the NBA Finals.
