After struggling to take out the Boston Celtics in Game 6 on Thursday night, the Philadelphia 76ers were forced to head back to Boston for a Game 7.

On Sunday afternoon, the seven-game Eastern Conference Semifinals series will see its conclusion. All series long, the Sixers had their star center Joel Embiid on the injury report as he’s been dealing with a sprained knee.

The setback started during the first-round series against the Brooklyn Nets. As Embiid injured his knee during Game 3, he was ruled out for the fourth and final outing after receiving his diagnosis.

Although the Sixers got plenty of time off in between Game 4 against Brooklyn and Game 1 against Boston, they didn’t have Embiid healthy and available for the start of the second-round series.

After missing Game 1 against the Celtics, Embiid returned to the court and made his 2023 second-round series debut in Game 2 against Boston. From that point moving forward, Embiid was on the Sixers’ injury report listed as questionable for the next few games.

Despite entering the last four games listed as questionable, Embiid avoided any setbacks, which led to him playing in every matchup.

For the first time during the series, the Sixers removed Embiid from the injury report, and he’s on pace to pay for the sixth-straight game.

Since Embiid returned to Philadelphia’s lineup, the Sixers have gone 2-3 against the Celtics. In the five games he played, Embiid averaged 28 points, nine rebounds, two assists, one steal, and three blocks on the defensive end.

From the field, Embiid has knocked down 45 percent of his shots and is averaging 89 percent from the free throw line, while taking 11 attempts per game.

With their backs against the wall, the Sixers will need Embiid’s best effort on Sunday afternoon. As Philadelphia searches for its first trip to the Eastern Conference Finals since 2001, they are relying on the MVP to take them there with a significant performance.
