76ers vs. Nets: Tyrese Maxey’s Injury Diagnosis Revealed

In this story:
As Tyrese Maxey helped lead the Philadelphia 76ers to an upset victory on the road against the Dallas Mavericks, the young guard had an injury scare during the third quarter of the matchup.
When Maxey attempted to drive into the paint, he slipped up and hit his head on a defender’s knee. Maxey was down for a bit before getting helped up off the floor and assisted back to the locker room area.
After Maxey was evaluated, the veteran guard was cleared to return to action as long as he felt up for it. Not long after his exit, Maxey checked back into the game to help the Sixers close out the matchup to snag their second-straight win.
All seemed well on the injury front for Maxey after Sunday’s game. 76ers head coach Nick Nurse noted that the medical staff would closely monitor Maxey over the next couple of days, but he was under the impression that the All-Star guard would be fine.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.
As the Sixers geared up for their Tuesday night matchup on the road against the Brooklyn Nets, Maxey added to the injury report just hours before the game was scheduled to begin. The star scorer was ruled out, and reportedly sent home back to Philly.
On the Sixers’ injury report, Maxey was listed as out with a concussion. Before Tuesday’s outing against the Nets, Nick Nurse described it as delayed and mild, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompey.
“They didn’t really see the symptoms right away,” the head coach told reporters. “And he wakes up the next day, and they’re there.”
The Sixers won’t have much time to rest to start the week, as they are set to host the Memphis Grizzlies just 24 hours after tipping off against the Nets. Maxey’s return to action date is currently unclear.
If Maxey misses Wednesday’s game against Memphis, the next time he could return would be on Friday, when the Sixers welcome the New Orleans Pelicans to South Philly.
