Will Doc Rivers finally take that break from coaching? Or will the former Philadelphia 76ers head coach search for a new landing spot shortly after wrapping up his tenure with the Sixers?

According to Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes, Rivers still has the desire to continue coaching “if the right opportunity presented itself.”

Prior to Rivers’ stint with the 76ers, he coached to Los Angeles Clippers for seven seasons. Over that span, the Clippers achieved a 356-208 record. Rivers’ Clippers appeared in 59 playoff games, winning 46 percent of their battles in the postseason.

Following a disappointing playoff run during the 2019-2020 season, the Clippers moved on from Rivers after the championship hopefuls failed to make it past the Western Conference Semifinals. At the time, the Sixers parted ways with Brett Brown following a seven-year stint.

Although Rivers was rumored to be on the path to taking a break from coaching, he quickly bounced back by taking the 76ers job, signing a five-year deal with the organization.

Over the last three years, Rivers’ Sixers achieved a 154-82 record. In 35 playoff games, the Sixers went 20-15, with three first-round victories. However, they couldn’t make it past the second round. After the Sixers dropped Game 7 against the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, Daryl Morey and the Sixers cut the head coach’s time in Philadelphia short.

“My job is to evaluate everything, and we felt like that was the best move for helping us get to our goals going forward,” Morey said on Wednesday. “It was carefully thought out, and I recommended it to ownership, and they accepted it.”

Considering Rivers’ struggles to coach the Clippers and the Sixers beyond the second round in nine-straight playoff runs, the future Hall of Famer might not have contenders jumping at the opportunity to reel Rivers in right away.

It’s unclear what opportunity Rivers is searching for at this time, but it seems the head coach could be back on a bench sometime in the near future.
