Danny Green is headed back to the City of Brotherly Love to reunite with Nick Nurse and the Philadelphia 76ers.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Green agreed to a contract with the Sixers on Tuesday night. While the contract value has not been revealed, the duration of the deal is reportedly one season.

The New York native is back for another run with the Sixers after spending all of last season away from them. During the 2022 NBA Draft, the Sixers moved Green to the Memphis Grizzlies, along with a first-round pick to secure the veteran guard, De’Anthony Melton.

At the time, Green was dealing with a torn ACL, which he suffered during the 2022 NBA Playoffs in the second round. Although players typically take a season off after undergoing ACL surgery, Green vowed to return around the 2023 All-Star break.

Green made his Grizzlies debut on February 1, 2023. His stint in Memphis lasted just three games. During that time, he averaged three points while draining 38 percent of his shots from beyond the arc.

Eight days after his Memphis debut, Green was traded to the Houston Rockets ahead of the deadline. Not long after the move, Green agreed to a contract buyout with Houston. Shortly after, Green signed a one-year contract to join the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The veteran finished the 2022-2023 regular season with eight games under his belt in Cleveland. Averaging 12 minutes off the bench, Green put up seven points per game while knocking down 45 percent of his threes.

In the playoffs, Green averaged ten minutes off the bench for the Cavs. He struggled to make an impact as he shot just 20 percent from the field as Cleveland failed to advance past the New York Knicks in the first round.

Green will return to Philadelphia this season looking to help a Sixers team that’s under new management to better postseason success.

When Green joined the 76ers in 2020, following back-to-back championship runs in Toronto and Los Angeles, Philadelphia failed to advance past the second round during the 2021 playoff run. Amid the second-round series against the Atlanta Hawks, Green suffered a leg injury, which kept him off the court for a handful of games.

After hitting the free agency market, Green decided to return to the 76ers on a two-year deal ahead of the 2021-2022 NBA season. The veteran went from starting every game to coming off the bench for more than half of his appearances before starting in 12 games for the Sixers during the 2022 playoff run.

As the Sixers faced the Miami Heat for a Game 6 matchup in the second round, Green suffered another injury, which took him off the floor in a do-or-die matchup the Sixers couldn’t survive.

According to Wojnarowski, Green’s relationship with the reigning MVP Joel Embiid and the first-year Philadelphia head coach Nick Nurse played a critical part in the veteran’s return. Since Green was an important locker room presence for the Toronto Raptors in 2018-2019 and for the Sixers from 2020 to 2022, Philly figures it could use some reliable veteran leadership as they look to get on the right path to championship success.
