Before the Philadelphia 76ers reach the free agency period of the offseason, the team learned that their veteran wing Danuel House Jr. will return to the team.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, House has picked up his player option for next season, which means House is on pace to return to Philadelphia for his second season with the team.

Dating back to the 2021-2022 season, the Sixers showed interest in House. After House was waived by the Houston Rockets in mid-December, he hit the free agency market and received interest from several teams.

According to reports, the Sixers were one of the teams House considered joining before he signed a ten-day contract with the New York Knicks.

After House’s ten days in New York were up, he went on to sign multiple ten-day contracts with the Utah Jazz. After a third temporary run, the Jazz inked Housed a contract to keep him on board for the rest of the season. When the 2022 free agency period arrived last summer, that’s when House inked an agreement with the 76ers.

House reportedly signed a two-year deal with the Sixers worth $8.5 million. The second season on the contract was a player option. To no surprise, House reportedly intends to pick up the option, which will allow him to earn $4.3 million for the 2023-2024 season.

Throughout the 2022-2023 season, House had an inconsistent role with the Sixers. He appeared in 56 games, coming off the bench for all but five of them.

During that time, House averaged nearly 15 minutes on the court. He put up five points per game while averaging 47 percent from the field and 34 percent from beyond the arc.

In the playoffs, House made seven appearances, averaging six minutes on the court. During that time, he put up three points per game while shooting 43 percent from the field.

House’s first season in Philadelphia probably didn’t go as planned, but perhaps he’ll find more success in a new system that will be implemented.

On Thursday, the Sixers officially hired former Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse to replace Doc Rivers, who was fired after the playoff run.

With Nurse in the building, the Sixers will have a different look, which could be especially beneficial for prospects like House, who are looking to bounce back in 2023-2024.
