The Philadelphia 76ers are officially bringing Danny Green back to town.

On Wednesday, Sixers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey announced that the team had signed Green once again. Per team policy, the terms of the deal were not disclosed.

According to reports, Green is expected to return to the Sixers on a one-year deal. The contract is also expected to be partially guaranteed. 

The 2023-2024 NBA season won’t be Green’s first go-round in Philadelphia. Back in 2020, the veteran sharpshooter was included in a draft-night deal, which sent him to the Sixers before he ever suited up with the rebuilding Oklahoma City Thunder.

Although the Sixers’ draft night deal with the Thunder was headlined by the team’s ability to get off Al Horford’s expensive multi-year contract, Green proved to be a valuable addition in the process.

When he joined the Sixers, Green was coming off championship seasons with two different organizations. In 2019, Green won a title with the Toronto Raptors. The following year, he was crowned a champion as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Green spent the next two seasons in Philadelphia. During his debut year, he was a full-time starter, averaging ten points per game while shooting 41 percent from three. After testing the free agency market in 2021, Green re-signed with the Sixers on a two-year contract.

In year two with the Sixers, Green played more of a reserve role. Taking on fewer minutes, he produced six points per game while hitting on 38 percent of his threes. Following his second season with the Sixers, which ended with Green tearing his ACL in the final playoff game, the veteran was moved in another draft night trade with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Green’s run in Memphis would last three games. Before the 2023 trade deadline, the veteran was dealt to the Houston Rockets. Houston waived Green, which allowed him to reunite with the Cleveland Cavaliers in free agency. After a 12-game stint in Cleveland, Green became a free agent once again.

Now, he’s set to reunite with former Raptors head coach Nick Nurse on the 76ers ahead of the 2023-2024 season.
