Former Sixers Two-Way Player Parts Ways With Blue Coats

In this story:
As the 2023-2024 NBA season approaches, the Philadelphia 76ers’ G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats, are making moves and preparing to finalize their roster ahead of training camp.
On Tuesday, the Blue Coats made a move in order to acquire the G League rights of former Miami Heat guard Javonte Smart. As Smart is competing for the Sixers during the 2023 preseason, the Blue Coats swapped out a 2024 first-round and second-round pick to land Smart’s rights from the Birmingham Squadron.
In the event Smart is waived by the Sixers and doesn’t get picked up on a standard or two-way contract with another NBA organization, he’ll be set to compete with the Blue Coats for the 2023-2024 season.
Delaware made another move on Wednesday, parting ways with former Sixers’ two-way player, Michael Foster Jr. According to a team release, the Blue Coats moved Foster to the Washington Wizards’ affiliate, Capital City Go-Go.
In exchange for Foster, the Blue Coats landed former Wake Forest forward Isaiah Mucius.
Last season, Mucias appeared in 16 games with Capital City. He averaged nearly nine minutes off the bench, putting up four points per game. He knocked down 41 percent of his shots and 24 percent of his threes on two attempts per matchup.
As for Foster, he parts ways with the Sixers’ affiliate after one season. Foster joined the Sixers last year as an undrafted prospect. Rather than competing in the NCAA, the former five-star prospect took his talents straight to the G League to compete with the Ignite.
In October 2022, Foster earned a two-way contract in Philadelphia. He was waived a little over a month later. After clearing waivers, he returned to the Blue Coats. In 27 games, Foster averaged 13 points and seven rebounds. He helped the Blue Coats put together their first successful championship run in the G League.
Now, Foster is set to represent Capital City for his third run in the G League.
