Joel Embiid Holds Scoring Streak Crown After 76ers Pummeled Pistons

In this story:
Wednesday was another night that called for a Joel Embiid scoring masterclass.
The Philadelphia 76ers center once again had his way with the opposing team’s defense. In a matchup against the Detroit Pistons, Embiid started the night off efficiently from the field, knocking down five of his first eight shots.
Getting to the free throw line for nine foul shots, Embiid was perfect from the charity stripe to start the game. He led the way with 19 points as the Sixers nearly dropped 40 on Detroit in the opening quarter.
By the time halftime rolled around, Embiid had already kept his streak of scoring 30-plus alive. After knocking down ten of his 15 first-half shot attempts, Embiid had 30 points in 19 minutes. According to Stathead, Embiid’s ninth-consecutive 30-point outing is the longest streak in the NBA currently.
Additionally, it’s the second-longest streak in Sixers franchise history. The big man is currently chasing his own record, which was stopped out at ten-straight games.

After a 20-point outing against the Boston Celtics on November 15, Embiid collected 32 points in three straight games to follow. After he was ruled out for the first time this season due to hip soreness, Embiid picked up where he left off in the following two games, notching 35 points against the Oklahoma City Thunder and 30 points against the Los Angeles Lakers.
An illness sidelined Embiid for two matchups. When he returned on December 6, Embiid scored a season-high 50 points against the Washington Wizards. He closed out last week’s slate with a 38-point outing against the Atlanta Hawks.
To begin this week’s slate of games, Embiid clocked an early shift against Washington. In a near-50-point win, Embiid scored 34 points in 29 minutes. Then, on Wednesday in Detroit, he accounted for 41 points in 31 minutes, receiving the entire fourth quarter off en route to an 18-point win.
On Friday, Embiid could keep the streak alive and tie his personal record in a rematch against Detroit. In the previous two outings against the Pistons, Embiid has exceeded 30 points. He’ll look to make it three in a row on Friday.
