When New York Knicks All-Star Jalen Brunson realized that the Philadelphia 76ers’ social media team was filming right next to him, he decided to poke fun at Philly’s star guard, Tyrese Maxey.

Knowing there is a die-hard love in Philly for the city’s NFL team, the Philadelphia Eagles, Brunson attempted to use that as a way to turn Sixers fans against their All-Star.

“Are you an Eagles fan?” Brunson asked Maxey before the two players took the court for All-Star practice.

Wanting no part of answering that question, Maxey attempted to avoid it. “We’re about to go out,” said Maxey with a smirk. “We gotta go.”

“Ya’ll love him — and he doesn’t love the Eagles,” Brunson added.

By now, Philly fans are well aware of Maxey’s team preference when it comes to football. While he avoids saying it out loud, Maxey is a known fan of the Dallas Cowboys, a division rival of the Birds.

It might be a tough pill to swallow for fans, but the situation is understandable, considering Maxey was born in Dallas and played basketball in Texas up until his freshman year at Kentucky.

Still, Brunson, a New Jersey-born Eagles fan, had a point to get across.

“He’s from Dallas? Hell no!” Said the Knicks guard. “Bird Gang.”

Despite the conflicting football fandom, Maxey countered his All-Star teammate. “You’re not supposed to like him, he’s with the Knicks,” Maxey claimed.

That should be a fair enough point for 76ers fans. While Brunson rocks with Philly during football season, he’s a direct rival of the 76ers during basketball season. Despite his Eagles fandom, Brunson will have a hard time finding support from the crowd on February 22, when the Knicks pay a visit to the Sixers for the second time this year.
