Former NBA GM to Join Sixers in Consulting Role

In this story:
With less than a week to go before the start of the regular season, the Philadelphia 76ers are making additions to their front office. A former longtime executive will be joining the mix in a consulting role.
Per Kyle Neubeck of PHLY Sports, Neil Olshey has taken a job in the Sixers front office as a consultant. In this role, he will be reporting directly to Daryl Morey and Elton Brand.
Olshey got his start as a player development coach and managed to work his way up to the front office. His executive gig was with the LA Clippers, where he was General Manager for two years. In 2012, he made the jump to the Portland Trail Blazers, where he'd be their GM for nearly a decade before being fired in 2021.
Following a disappointing end to his tenure in Portland, Olshey is excited to work alongside Morey and Brand as they look to build a contender. “I am grateful to Daryl and Elton for this opportunity to consult for a storied franchise like the 76ers,” Olshey said in a statement. “I’m thrilled to support a strong front office and contribute to the overall success of the team in any way I can.”
As the newest addition to the front office, Olshey is entering a rocky situation at the moment. James Harden continues to seek out a trade and is going to great lengths to get his message across. In his consulting role, Olshey can assist Morey and Brand as they seek out the best return that keeps the Sixers in a position to contend for a title.
