As the Toronto Raptors search for their next head coach, a former member of the Philadelphia 76ers has emerged as a potential candidate to replace Toronto’s former head coach, Nick Nurse.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, former Sixers sharpshooter JJ Redick has met with Toronto’s franchise leadership recently, as they conducted a first-round of candidates.

If Redick were to land the job, it would become the first coaching job of his career.

Just last season, Redick walked away from the game of basketball after wrapping up a long and successful career.

Back in 2006, Redick entered the NBA as an 11th overall pick out of Duke. He played with the Orlando Magic until 2013. After having a small stint with the Milwaukee Bucks, Redick joined the Los Angeles Clippers from 2013 until 2017.

When he hit the free agency market in 2017, Redick then joined the Sixers, where he spent two seasons. Although he wasn’t in Philly for a long time, Redick was a key contributor for the Sixers during the two seasons he played for them.

After wrapping up his two-year stint in Philadelphia, Redick signed with the New Orleans Pelicans during the 2019 free agency period. After playing with the Pelicans for a full season, Redick found himself traded to the Dallas Mavericks after spending 31 games with New Orleans in 20202-2021.

Following the 2020-2021 season, Redick contemplated potentially signing with a handful of teams with the Sixers rumored to be in the mix. However, Redick decided to call it a career.

While Redick has carved out a role for himself in the NBA media world, becoming an analyst at ESPN, it seems coaching could be in the former sharpshooter’s future.

It’s unclear just how serious the Raptors are about bringing Redick in to run the team, but Toronto is doing a ton of homework on potential candidates as they look to replace Nurse.
