Nick Nurse Addresses Latest on Kelly Oubre Monday

In this story:
Monday didn’t serve as Kelly Oubre’s first day back at the Philadelphia 76ers’ practice facility following his off-court incident, which resulted in a fractured rib diagnosis, but it was the veteran’s first opportunity to participate in some basketball-related action since he’s been out.
“That was his first day back on the court,” Sixers head coach Nick Nurse said to reporters on Monday. “Simon has told me that today and tomorrow are pretty critical in the evaluation.”
When Oubre was diagnosed with a fractured rib a little over a week ago, the Sixers anticipated a reevaluation in approximately a week. At the time, there wasn’t a timeline in place for his return. That remains the case today.
“I haven’t really zeroed in on thinking about the timeline, to be honest,” Nurse later stated. “I think I knew it was going to be a little bit before we knew. I think he’s moving pretty good today, and that’s the first positive sign. The sooner, the better, that’s for sure."
Last week, Oubre was able to do some exercising on a bike at the Sixers’ practice facility. This week, he did some light conditioning and got up some shots following the team’s morning practice session.
“Getting him moving is the first step,” Nurse explained. “Getting him in some contact and things is the next step. I think after tomorrow, I’ll have a little better read on the timeline.”
The Sixers are set to fire up a back-to-back set on Tuesday, beginning with a matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers at home. Following the NBA In-Season Tournament matchup, the Sixers will travel to Minnesota to take on the Timberwolves the following night.
While the Sixers don’t have a timeline for Oubre, he’s unlikely to make his return to action during the two-game set. Soon, the Sixers should have a better idea of where he’s at, though, as he’s easing back into action.
