Reviewing a common competitor of the Philadelphia 76ers, the veteran guard Patrick Beverley didn’t seem too fond of the Toronto Raptors.

Earlier in the week, Beverley’s comments went viral up North, as he questioned whether the Raptors truly pose a threat to the Eastern Conference after the team went through some notable changes throughout the 2023 offseason.

“Who’s the dog of that team?” Beverley said on the Pat Bev Pod, per SportsNet. “I see [O.G.] Anunoby in a dark alley, I see [Pascal Siakam] in a dark alley I don’t feel threatened. That’s not disrespect for them. … I’m not disrespecting anybody, but it’s nothing that I’m like afraid of.”

Did Beverley’s comments offer the Raptors bulletin board material heading into the NBA’s opening week, which would feature a matchup between the Sixers and the Raptors? Toronto personnel didn’t have much to say on the topic, and even one of their veterans took the high road and praised Beverley for what he’s accomplished in the league over time.

Despite the shot going off without a real response back to stir the pot, Beverley wasn’t willing to put on the silencer following the Sixers’ victory over the Raptors on Saturday night.

Taking to X after the matchup, Beverley doubled down on his take.

“Like I said,” he wrote on social media. “No dogs.”

Beverley’s message came not long after the Sixers took care of business on the road in Canada. Coming off a disappointing one-point loss against the Milwaukee Bucks to begin the 2023-2024 NBA season, the Sixers looked to bounce back and get in the winner’s column.

One of Beverley’s targets in his comments, O.G. Anunoby, didn’t get the nod to play on Saturday night as he was downgraded from questionable to out as he battled a lower-body injury. Pascal Siakam trotted out for a 36-minute showing and didn’t help his case against Beverley, as he had a quiet 11 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.

Beverley wasn’t necessarily the star of the show on his side, but a lack of star production never stopped the veteran from playing his enforcer role by bringing the on-court toughness and the off-court gab.

Since Beverley’s Sixers picked up the victory on Saturday night, pushing the Raptors to 1-2 with a 114-107 Philly win, he logged on social media with zero hesitation to toss fuel right on top of his original comments.
