With training camp still months away, NBA players continue to get their runs in at Pro-AM Summer League matchups. This week, the Philadelphia-based Danny Rumph Classic tipped off Thursday night and featured two young NBA fan favorites.

Representing the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday night was the recently-re-signed center Paul Reed. Also, Los Angeles Clippers guard Nah’Shon “Bones” Hyland was in the building putting up numbers as well.

Last season, Sixers guard Tyrese Maxey was the lone local pro to show face at the Rumph Classic and put on a show before he entered his third season in the NBA. This time around, “Bball Paul” came out and nearly notched a triple-double with his performance.

According to the Rumph Classic’s official Twitter account, Reed scored 20 points while coming down with 13 rebounds and blocking five shots. He picked up the double-double in the first half of the matchup. His contributions helped lead the 8EYE team to victory.

After Reed battled it out, Hyland took the floor for CheckRock. The Delaware native’s production helped his team to victory, as the Clippers guard put up 25 points on the night.

The Rumph Classic was Paul Reed’s second local Pro-AM performance this summer. Last week, the young veteran was encouraged by his barber to participate in a Brotherly Love League matchup.

Heading into the 2023-2024 NBA season, Reed has a lot of expectations attached to him as he recently signed a three-year offer sheet with the Utah Jazz, which was matched by the Sixers.

Considering Reed has been Joel Embiid’s primary backup during the 76ers’ last two playoff runs, the former second-rounder is anticipating a bigger role next season. Therefore, he’s been putting in a ton of work this summer as he’s stuck around Philly for the most part.
