The Philadelphia 76ers are expected to bring on Kelly Oubre for the 2023-2024 NBA season, a source confirmed to All76ers on Monday night.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Oubre is expected to sign a one-year deal with the Sixers.

Over the last two seasons, Oubre played for the Charlotte Hornets. After coming off the bench in Charlotte for a majority of the 2021-2022 season, Oubre started in 40 of the 48 games he appeared in during the 2022-2023 run.

The veteran wing had a career-high season in scoring with the Hornets last season. Spending an average of 32 minutes on the court, Oubre produced 20 points per game while knocking down 43 percent of his shots from the field.

In addition to his scoring, Oubre came down with five rebounds per game while dishing out one assist per outing.

Oubre fills a major need for the Sixers, who lost multiple reserves to free agency over the summer.

When the free agency floodgates opened back in July, the Sixers parted ways with Georges Niang and Shake Milton within the first few hours of the negotiating period. Niang left as one of the Sixers’ most reliable shooters from beyond the arc.

Milton parted ways with the team after spending the first few seasons of his career developing as a valuable backup ball-handler in Philadelphia. On the third day of free agency, the Sixers lost their young wing Jalen McDaniels.

Despite trading with the Hornets for McDaniels at the 2023 trade deadline, the Sixers weren’t able to retain him. Although Daryl Morey initially viewed McDaniels as a player who could have a long-term fit in Philadelphia, he landed with the Toronto Raptors after his lone playoff run on the Sixers.

The 27-year-old Oubre brings valuable veteran experience to the Sixers. After getting selected in the first round of the 2015 NBA Draft, he spent the first four seasons of his career on the Washington Wizards. Amid his fourth season in DC, Oubre was traded to the Phoenix Suns.

After a season and a half in Phoenix, Oubre ended up on the Golden State Warriors. When he hit the free agency market in 2021, Oubre landed a notable two-year contract, which was worth $25 million, to join the Hornets.

Heading into year nine, Oubre could compete for notable minutes off the bench in Philadelphia for the 2023-2024 season.
