Shake Milton’s Message After Parting Ways With Sixers

Shake Milton will suit up for another team other than the Philadelphia 76ers for the first time in his NBA career.

When the 2022-2023 NBA season concluded, Milton was set to hit the free agency market as an unrestricted prospect for the first time in his NBA career.

In the weeks leading up to the opening of free agency, it was becoming clear that Milton’s time with the Sixers was reaching an end. As the veteran guard had an inconsistent role with the team over the last two seasons, Milton reportedly desired a shot at a more prominent role elsewhere.

On the first day of free agency, Milton agreed to a multi-year deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves. On Saturday, Milton and the Timberwolves made the signing official. Shortly after it was announced, the veteran guard took to Twitter to send a message to Philadelphia.

Coming out of SMU, Shake Milton landed with the Sixers in the 2018 NBA Draft. Selected in the second round, 54th overall, Milton was moved to the 76ers. At first, Milton was a two-way signee, playing just 20 games on the main roster and spending most of his time with the G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats.

By the 2019-2020 season, Milton was on a standard NBA contract and appeared in 40 matchups with 24 starts.

Over the next three seasons, Milton was a steady backup guard for the Sixers. Last year, Milton appeared in a career-high 76 games for the Sixers. During that time, he averaged eight points, three rebounds, and three assists while spending 21 minutes per game on the floor.

Although Milton had an active role during the regular season, he fell out of favor come playoff time. In the Sixers’ 11-game run, Milton averaged just four minutes on the floor across six matchups.

Next season, Milton will get a fresh start in Minnesota. After his five-year run in Philadelphia, the veteran guard is set to suit up for the Timberwolves for the next two seasons.
