Seth Curry Talks Embiid, Maxey After Series Loss to Sixers

After battling with the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2021 NBA Playoffs, Brooklyn Nets guard Seth Curry went against the Sixers during the 2023 NBA Playoffs.

The first-round series between the Sixers and the Nets lasted just four games. As the Sixers asserted their dominance against a fairly new, and re-tooling Nets team, Curry and his Brooklyn-based teammates didn’t have what it takes to defeat a squad of championship-hopefuls.

Before heading into the offseason officially, Curry discussed some some of his former teammates.

With the 2023 MVP winner soon to be revealed, Curry mentioned that he believes Sixers center Joel Embiid should take home the hardware this time around, according to Sixers Wire’s Ky Carlin.

“Absolutely,” he smiled. “Yeah. For sure. He’s been dominating for a few years now, carrying the team. I feel like he should have one on his resume.”

In addition to considering Embiid the MVP while offering the big man well wishes after his knee injury, Curry also sent praise Tyrese Maxey’s way after seeing the guard’s development this season.

“Obviously, shooting the ball,” said Curry. “He’s a knockdown shooter now. So that allows him to just be more aggressive using his speed and attacking the basket which he’s always been good at, but he found a great role just being aggressive and scoring the ball. He’s getting better and taking advantage of his opportunities.”

During Curry’s lone full season with the Sixers, Tyrese Maxey was a rookie guard out of Kentucky that didn’t have a steady role on the roster.

Maxey appeared in 61 games, averaging 15 minutes on the court. At the time, Maxey averaged eight points while knocking down just 30 percent of his threes. His struggles from beyond the arc were the biggest knock on the young guard early on.

Over the last two seasons, Maxey improved a ton, specifically with his three-point shooting. This year, Maxey wrapped up the regular season as one of the NBA’s top shooters from long-range, knocking down 43 percent of his shots from deep.

Then in the first-round playoff series against the Nets, Maxey averaged eight threes per game and drilled 50 percent of them in four games, while putting up 22 points per game.

The second round will be challenging for Maxey and the Sixers, but former Philadelphia guard Seth Curry seems encouraged by what he saw out of his former teammate lately.
