Tyrese Maxey’s Showing vs. Pacers Puts Him in Legendary 76ers Company

In this story:
What do Tyrese Maxey and Philadelphia 76ers legend Allen Iverson now have in common? They are the only members of the Sixers’ organization to score at least 50 points in a single game before turning 24 years old.
Back in 1997, the former first-overall pick Iverson checked into a matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers for 46 minutes. He attempted 32 field goals, finding success on 53 percent of them. The legendary Sixer accomplished his first 50-point game in his career while adding five rebounds, six assists, and two steals.
Maxey accomplished his career-high feat on Sunday night against the Indiana Pacers. Coming off an emotional night, as his teammate Kelly Oubre was struck by a car, resulting in an injury, Maxey wanted to put on a big performance to win for his guy.
The young guard was highly successful. In 39 minutes of action, Maxey chucked up 32 shots from the field. He knocked down over 60 percent of his attempts and drilled seven shots from beyond the arc. In both halves of the game, Maxey produced 25 points for a well-balanced 50-point outing.
In addition to his scoring, Maxey added seven rebounds, five assists, and three blocks on the defensive end. During a game where the Sixers just couldn’t put the Pacers away, despite collecting notable leads, Maxey made sure Indiana wouldn’t turn the tables entirely, as his offensive attack was far too much for them to handle.
With another Sixers win, Philadelphia continues building on a league-leading eight-game win streak. With the keys to the Sixers’ offense in his possession, Maxey has taken full advantage of the expanded role as he’s averaging nearly 29 points per game while shooting 43 percent from three and 50 percent from the field.
