What was expected to be a dogfight turned out to be a one-sided affair when the Boston Celtics bludgeoned the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday night, 140-99.

Beating the Bucks by 41 points was no easy feat, but the Celtics are not gloating about it.

"This doesn't really mean much," said Jaylen Brown, who dropped 30 points in the win. "If we play them again, we've got to be ready to take their best shot," Brown added.

Playoff implications

Brown, however, admitted that the 41-point massacre has significant bearing in the Celtics' quest to catch the Bucks in the race for the top seed in the Eastern Conference.

"It does matter. We want to finish out the season strong and see what happens," Brown said.

After the loss, the Bucks still sit atop the East with a 55-22 record. The Celtics are just two games behind at 53-24.

Jayson Tatum, who led the Celtics with a game-high 40 points, said the game plan against the Bucks was to start strong.

He said the Celtics came into the game determined to bounce back from a 130-111 loss to the Washington Wizards.

"We responded well from the jump. That's all that I wanted and we wanted as a team, regardless of if we won or not, just to respond and play better than we did last game," said Tatum.

Celtics with a balanced attack

Aside from Tatum and Brown, three other Celtics scored in double figures in a balanced attack that helped Boston win the season series, 2-1.

It was the second time this season that the Bucks lost by 41 points after they fell to the Memphis Grizzlies, 142-101, on December 15th.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, who led the Bucks with 24 points, said the loss should serve as an eye-opener for the Bucks.

"We know what the deal is. If you're not focused and you don't play hard, they are going to kick our (butt). Simple as that. There is no level of concern. It's a fact. If we play the same way, we'll have the same outcome. We've got to have some pride," Antetokounmpo said.

Milwaukee is number one in the East for a reason and Thursday night's scoreboard certainly does not indicate the kind of a team the Bucks are. That's why it was understandable that Boston took the 41-point massacre with a grain of salt.
