The Milwaukee Bucks are the benchmark for any team who wishes to reach the elite level.

Champion coach Greg Popovich had this to say when his young San Antonio Spurs got pounded by the Bucks, 130-94, on Wednesday night at the Fiserv Forum.

Respect

Although San Antonio would be overmatched when pitted against Milwaukee, Popovich said he wouldn't mind playing against the Bucks more often if only to make his inexperienced wards better.

"They've got their culture down," Popovich said.

Milwaukee posted leads of as many as 13 points in the first quarter but fell into a maze of errors and allowed San Antonio to move within two points. The veterans that they are, the Bucks were quick to adjust and post a big 66-51 lead at the half.

It was all Milwaukee in the final half, where they outscored San Antonio, 64-43, to seal their most lopsided victory of the season.

Learning lesson

The five-team NBA champion coach said his players will learn a thing or two playing a quality team like Milwaukee.

"They're confident. They know they can do it if they play the right way, which they do most of the time. Tonight was a good example. I'd love to be able to play them every night. It would be great for our young kids to see how it gets done and how mistakes are made and what's important," said the three-time NBA Coach of the Year.

The two teams' campaigns this season are like night and day. Milwaukee sports an NBA-best 52-20 record. On the other hand, San Antonio has been eliminated from title contention with 54 losses and only 19 victories to show.
