The Chicago Bulls have waived Javon Freeman-Liberty. The move comes as the Bulls start to trim their roster down in preparation for the 2022-2023 season.

Freeman-Liberty was brought in by the team for training camp but was never able to crack the rotation. He appeared in a preseason game and scored eight points in the Bulls' 131-113 demolition of the Denver Nuggets last Saturday.

More cuts ahead

Freeman-Liberty is a hometown kid who played for Whitney Young in high school and then DePaul in college. The 22-year-old signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Bulls in July and suited up for the team's summer league squad. He averaged a solid 6.6 points in Las Vegas. The high point of his brief stint with the Bulls was, no doubt, his performance against the Nuggets when Freeman-Liberty made the most of his playing time and sank two of his four triples, including this make from the corner.

With the move, the Bulls now have 18 players on their roster. They still have to make more cuts before the start of the regular season, but it's clear that they're starting to shape up their team for the upcoming season. All eyes will be on how the team fares as they try to build on their performance from last season.

What's next for Freeman-Liberty?

The young guard will now become a free agent and look to latch on with another team. He showed some promise in the preseason and Summer League, but it wasn't enough to earn a spot on the Bulls' roster. It remains to be seen if he'll get another chance to prove himself in the NBA, but he could always end up in the G League or overseas.
