The Chicago Bulls have a glut of guards on their roster, but not one stands out enough to be considered a marquee point guard. Fortunately, one of the league’s best two-way guards, Jrue Holiday, is available after he was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers in the deal that sent superstar Damian Lillard to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Portland, though, is open to moving Holiday, and according to a report from the Miami Herald, Chicago is one of the franchises that appeal to the veteran point guard.

Suitors lining up

Holiday is a savvy veteran guard who could help any team compete for a playoff spot and even make a deep run in the playoffs. Now entering his 15th season in the NBA, Holiday is said to be looking to join a contending squad.

“League sources told the Miami Herald on Thursday that the [Miami] Heat, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls and Philadelphia 76ers are destinations that appeal to Holiday. That's important because Holiday, 33, can become a free agent next summer with a player option worth $37.4 million in his contract for the 2024-25 season,” Anthony Chiang and Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald wrote.

Ideal fit

With Lonzo Ball set to miss his second full season in a row, the Bulls are left to pick from the likes of Jevon Carter, Ayo Dosunmu, Coby White, Alex Caruso, and Dalen Terry as their next starting point guard. Holiday could be the perfect fit for their backcourt as he’s a veteran leader and capable scorer, averaging 19 points per game and over seven assists last season.

He’s also a superb defender who could no doubt strengthen the Bulls’ elite defense. Portland is leaning into their youth movement and would likely want either draft picks or talented young players in return for Holiday. The Bulls can dangle Patrick Williams, White, or Terry to acquire Holiday and add an experienced floor general to their roster.

The acquisition of Holiday this offseason would be a major win for the Bulls, as he could be the missing piece to push them back to relevance in the Eastern Conference. With his elite combination of offensive firepower and defensive prowess, Holiday is just who Chicago needs.
