This Is What Grant Williams Said Before Missing Crucial Free Throws Against The Cavs

Grant Williams was confident before missing two free throws that sent Boston Celtics-Cleveland Cavaliers to overtime.

Under a second on the clock, the fourth quarter, and a tie ball game.

Those are the kind of moments you dream about as a kid on the playground with your friends. However, most of those fantasies didn't end the way they did for Grant Williams on Monday night.

The Cleveland Cavaliers clawed their way back into the game late in the fourth quarter after being down by 15 points and trailing the entire game. Lamar Stevens made a costly could on Williams right before the buzzer sounded in the fourth that looked like it would end the game.

Both teams were tied at 109 with 0.8 seconds on the clock while Williams was at the line ready to shoot two shots. Donovan Mitchell can be seen walking up to him saying something, which Williams responds with:

"I'm gonna make both. I'm gonna make both."

Spoiler alert, he did not make both.

In fact, he missed them both which sent the game into overtime where the Cavs clinched the win.

When asked after the game if this is indeed what Williams said, Mitchell laughed and responded, "Yeah, he did. We have a [Players Association] call on Thursday or Friday and I said, 'Just miss one and talk about it.'" (Both Mitchell and Williams were recently voted onto the PA board.)

Grant Williams missing both shots is obviously not a great look, but not all the blame can go on him. The Celtics were outscored 31-17 by the Cavs in the fourth quarter and this was the tipping point.

Either way, the Cavs stayed strong when they could've let up and they were rewarded with the win.
