Allen says James, Cassell were his favorite teammates

During his 18-year NBA career, Ray Allen played with a lot of talented players and future Hall of Famers, but two guys stood out above all the rest as teammates.

In an interview with Shams Charania of The Athletic, Allen says LeBron James and Sam Cassell were his favorite teammates of all-time.

“Toss-up between Sam Cassell and LeBron James," Allen said. "Sam was a guy you wanted to go to battle with. He wouldn’t quit on you and do whatever he could. He never wore bad body language. LeBron is a guy who you’ll have fun with, he’ll compete with you, but he is always one of the guys. He never made himself bigger than the next man."

Allen and James were teammates for two seasons with the Miami Heat. They won a championship together in 2013 over the San Antonio Spurs. Allen hit one of the biggest shots in NBA history in Game 6 of that series. After a miss by James from deep, Chris Bosh secured the offensive rebound and kicked it out to Allen, who drilled a 3-pointer to tie the score at 95 with 5.2 seconds left in regulation. The game went into overtime, with the Heat winning, and Miami won Game 7 as well to clinch the title.

Cassell and Allen were teammates for several seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks and they briefly reunited to win a championship with the Boston Celtics in 2008.

Allen will be enshrined into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame this weekend. The sharpshooter has made the most 3-pointers in NBA history -- 2,973 -- and holds career averages of 18.9 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 1,300 games with the Bucks, Seattle SuperSonics, Celtics and Heat.
