Westbrook captures 2016-17 MVP award

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook has been named the 2016-17 Most Valuable Player.

Westbrook became the first player in league history since Oscar Robertson to average a triple-double for an entire season. His regular season stat line was 31.6 points, 10.7 rebounds and 10.4 assists.

Westbrook broke Robertson's record for the most triple-doubles in a single season with 42 and led the league in scoring. The explosive superstar guided the Thunder to 47 regular season wins in the rugged Western Conference.

The Thunder lost to the Houston Rockets in five games in the first-round of the playoffs. To say OKC struggled when Westbrook went to the bench, is a massive understatement.

In their series versus Houston, OKC was a +15 when Westbrook was on the floor and a -58 with him on the bench.

Westbrook is eligible to sign a five-year extension with the Thunder this offseason worth approximately $220 million.
