The Cleveland Cavaliers have two more regular season games before they officially shift their focus to the 2023 NBA playoffs. They'll play their first two games of the postseason in front of their home crowd as the Cavs have also clinched home court advantage for the first round as well.

The Cavs already have a couple of players getting locked in for the playoffs and no one may be more ready to raise the level of intensity than Donovan Mitchell

Cleveland's All-Star shooting guard has been on some kind of scoring mission over the last week and a half. We all knew that Spida was a bucket, but what he's done over the last four games has brought him to a whole new level.

Mitchell has now scored 40+ points in four straight games as the Cavs looked to end the regular season on a high note.

This is what Mitchell has done over his last four games:

  • @ Hawks - 44 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds
  • Vs. Knicks 42 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds
  • Vs. Pacers - 40 points, one assist, 6 rebounds
  • @ Magic - 43 points, 4 assists, 5 rebounds

In those four games that he's scored 40 or more, Cleveland has gone 2-2.

This stretch has been very impressive, and even historic, but there is one worry with Mitchell doing this so close to the start of the postseason. That concern is that he's either peaking too early or he'll burn himself out before the playoffs even start.

While I do understand this potential concern, I really think Mitchell will be fine. He's been to the playoffs each of the five seasons he's been in the NBA so he knows what to expect from a four-game series.

Let's just hope he can keep up this efficiency against Cleveland's first opponent.
