Back soreness sidelines Cavs' Green for next two games

Cleveland Cavaliers coach TyronnLue announced forward JeffGreen will not play tonight for the second time in three games because of lower back soreness.

Lue said Green will not suit up for tonight's game against the visiting Denver Nuggets and that Green had an MRI on Saturday, which revealed no structural damage. Green will also not play Monday against visiting Detroit.

“He got an MRI today after shootaround,” Lue said. “So after talking to the doctors and seeing the doctors we just said we’ll give you the next couple of games off and reevaluate from there. But no structural damage or anything like that." Lue said the team's plan is to give Green an extended time to rest. Green told reporters after practice Friday that he was taking better care of his body and there was no mention of Green being shut down. Lue later said Green did not take part in the shootaround.

“It’s something that occurred the other day, just tightness,” he said. “I mean that comes with the long season. With what was on my plate I had a lot to deal with so I wasn’t doing the proper things that I needed to do to take care of my body and it affected me. But we have a good training staff and they’re making me do the things I need to get 100 percent.”

The 31-year-old Green is averaging 10.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 22.1 minutes in 60 games this season for the Cavaliers (36-25), shooting 48.5 percent from the field, 30.9 percent from the 3-point line, and 86.7 percent from the free-throw line.

The 6-foot-9, 235-pound nine-year veteran has been struggling of late from 3, mired in a 2-of-13 skid over the last three games.
