In this story:

The NBA is in the midst of their inaugural in-season tournament. In addition to the NBA Cup, players are competing for the Most Valuable Player award, which is based on player’ performance throughout Group Play and the Knockout Rounds.

The current frontrunner for this award is Tyrese Haliburton. The Indiana Pacers guard is averaging 25.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 14 assists, and two steals per game.

The Boston Celtics’ Jaylen Brown received an honorable mention on the In-Season Tournament MVP Ladder, which places him within the top 10 but outside of the top 5. Brown is averaging 25.5 points, 4.5 assists, and three rebounds per game.

Matthew Petersen, an interactive producer for NBA.com, wrote the following about Brown:

“Like [Jimmy] Butler, Brown is the leading man for a well-balanced and undefeated squad.”

Boston is undefeated in East Group C, holding victories over the Brooklyn Nets and Toronto Raptors. They are set to face the Orlando Magic and Chicago Bulls in their remaining group-stage matches.

The Celtics’ next game is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 19, against the Memphis Grizzlies at FedExForum; tip-off is at 8:00 p.m. EST. Brown is listed as questionable due to a right adductor strain.
